After graduation from New Hanover High School Paschall enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 34 years. During those years he attend numerous universities while on shore duty receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree through the Department of Defense Regents Program from the State University of New York at Albany. He advanced from Seaman to Commander serving two combat tours in Korea and in Vietnam, plus two tours on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in the Pentagon.
