Scholarship Application

To help accomplish the mission of the New Hanover High School Alumni Organization to provide scholarships for NHHS graduates, endowed scholarships have been established at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and at Cape Fear Community College. A second endowed scholarship has been established at Cape Fear by a NHHS graduate who is a member of the Alumni Organization Board. It was established in memory of George Murray and is available to students pursuing education/training in the trades. Links to these scholarships are available on this website. There is also a link if you would like to donate to the cause. The original amount is expected to provide a $1,000 scholarship annually.

Donating to the scholarships is a good way to honor or memorialize New Hanover graduates. You can make donations directly to the schools or through the NHHS Alumni Organization. Either way, your donation is tax deductible.

CAPE FEAR COMMUNITY COLLEGE 

CFCC’s fall of 2023 has two endowed scholarships for NHHS graduates who plan to attend Cape Fear Community College, plus one Career Trade Annual not yet endowed.

CFCC add upcoming application cycle is March 1 to May 30 awarding the scholarships for the fall of 2023.  Recipients at CFCC are chosen by June 30.  A picture and check presentation will be scheduled.  The following links are for CFCC scholarships.

SCHOLARSHIP NUMBER ONE (1)

One is an endowed $1,000 academic scholarship.  It may be awarded to any NHHS graduate enrolling or currently attending CFCC.  It may be used for general studies in all areas.  Anyone may donate directly to this endowed scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP NUMBER TWO  (2)

Two is an endowed scholarship for a $1,000 annual scholarship for a Career and Trade program.   This scholarship is called the Robert C Murray Jr Career and Trade Endowed Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Student must be a graduate of New Hanover High School
  • Applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 2.3 unweighted
  • Financial need preference
  • Applicant shall be considered without regard to race, religion, creed, national origin, age, gender or handicap.
  • Must be employed part time or full time
  • Meet scholarship recipient in person or over the phone after selection.

SCHOLARSHIP NUMBER THREE (3)

Three is called the New Hanover High School Alumni Annual Career and Trade Scholarship for $1000

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA WILMINGTON

The third endowed scholarship makes a $1,000 award to a New Hanover High School graduate attending UNCW.   It may be administered at $500 per semester.  The application is open December 1 through the priority date of March 1.  Contact email is scholarships@uncw.edu
