Light It Up Campaign Update
October 18, 2025

We Did It! Our school was officially Lit Up on Monday, October 13, 2025 at approximately 7:20 pm to kickoff Homecoming Week. Congratulations to all Wildcats, past and present, for this historic achievement.

Festivities began at sunset, approximately 6:45 pm, with the Wildcat pep band and cheerleaders pounding out our Fight Song. President Louise McColl (’64) welcomed the large crowd in front of the Senior Steps, followed by NHHS Student Body President, Dara Turner (2026), expressing the pride and enthusiasm Lighting It Up brings to current students and their families.

After the JROTC Color Guard presented our colors, Hanover Singers’ lead, Hannah James, beautifully sang our National Anthem, further energizing the crowd.

Light It Up Campaign chair, Ben Ivey (’77) thanked the many donors and partners who made the campaign and project a success, noting that all donors received a personally engraved Wildcat Brick in Brogden Courtyard. Louis North (’80) read the Major Donor plaque inscription, which is permanently placed in front of the Senior Steps.

Capping off the evening was Principal Philip Sutton who shared a historical perspective of the NHHS torch being a symbol of enlightenment and how these lights would add to that legacy. He also announced a new annual tradition of the Student Body President Lighting It Up orange on each Monday of Homecoming Week.

Finally, Dara Turner and Louise McColl, together lit a symbolic torch to fire up the lights with the crowd singing the NHHS Alma Mater.

It was a fun, “enlightening” evening; all Wildcats are encouraged to ride by the school to enjoy its “lit up” beauty, as well as to see the new lights on Brogden Hall. Below are links to pictures of the evening as well as a video of the ceremony.

To our donors, please accept a most sincere THANK YOU for your support.
