Stanley was a Low Observation Helicopter pilot, NHHS class of 1963 / Citadel 1967. He took job in Alexandria…grooming for staff position. He received an invitation to flight school for helicopters while there. He was a Captain, US Army, 1971 – 1976…then Ft Bragg. During the Low observation missions in Vietnam he flew the Loach AH-8 and drew fire for the Cobras. He saved several men in trees, on ground, etc. while taking heavy fire… His Helicopter took numerous 50 caliber rounds right below his legs…but he was not hit. He was awarded numerous medals.
