Hodges, Clara Murray
Class of 1953Hodges’ enthusiasm for preserving the history of Winter Park school comes out of school spirit. She says there are two things important in life, your name and your roots. “Winter Park School is my roots.”
Hodges became interested in the school’s history when the school board office burned down in 1971, destroying many records of Winter Park. That is when she painted her first portrait of the school. She went through the archives, photocopying what she could find and collecting deeds, photos and, most importantly, stories from people who were part of the Winter Park family. Hodges then put together everything she had found into a book, “Winter Park School Remembered,” published in 1995.
