Blackmore, Judge Rebecca W.
After graduating from New Hanover High School Judge Rebecca W. Blackmore received her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and her J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Judge Blackmore was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1983. She was attorney in private practice until 1993 then served as District Court Judge, 5th Judicial District from 1993-2014. Blackmore retired in December, 2014.
She ruled on many cases, anything from traffic violations to child custody battles. She was also instrumental in starting the first substance abuse treatment facility for women in North Carolina. Blackmore said, for her, it has always be about helping people. “It is, It’s not about us. It’s about the people who elect us to come in here and make decisions that address problems in their life, and in our community”.
