Class of 1958

Born August 5, 1940 graduated New Hanover High School 1958.

Roman stared as quarterback at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.  A two-time All-American and two-time ACC Player of the Year, Gabriel finished his college career  holding virtually every Wolfpack passing record.  He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.  Playing baseball he was voted the best amateur athlete in the Carolinas.  Roman played for the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles.  He was awarded the NFL Most Valuable Player Award and earned Pro Bowl sports for four years.

Gabriel had a brief career in movies with the John Wayne and Rock Hudson films.  He appeared in numerous other movies.
