Class of 1949

Born August 5, 1931 graduated New Hanover High School 1949.

He attended Davidson College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve.  Penton was Deputy Commandant of the U.S. Army Intelligence School, Fort Huachuca, AZ.

He was president of the North Carolina Fuel Merchants Association and served as a Trustee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.  Penton was a member of the Board of the Carolinas United Fund Group for North and South Carolina.  He was one of the twelve incorporators of the Historic Wilmington Foundation.  For his service to the community, he was named “man of the Year
