Payne, Peggy
Class of 1966Born in 1949 graduated New Hanover High School 1966.
Peggy graduated from Duke University and worked for the Raleigh Times before beginning her freelance career. She is a writer, journalist and consultant to writers. She has written a numerous books and her articles, reviews and essays have appeared in The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune. Her work deals primarily with religion and spirituality.
Payne was awarded the Sherwood Anderson Award and the NEH grant to study fiction at Berkeley and the New York Times Notable Book of the Year.
